About SARISIN'S Southrussian Ovcharkas
My husband Glenn and
I own a small, select group of SROs since 1987. Our dogs live together
with us in our farm house in the northern part of the Netherlands.
Our dogs have more
or less independent natures. They like to be hugged and caressed, but in
their own time. All of them like to be in-and-out doors, so we have a large
fenced garden for them - no kennels. The door is open when ever possible.
Why we like this breed so much:
SROs look very quiet,
harmless, peaceful and soft. But they are not what they appear to be -
they have a powerful guarding nature. They have a huge love and affection
for their family and hardly any affection at all for strangers. It is this
controversy in character and behavior that appeals to me.
They are very intelligent
but also *very* stubborn and self willed. This combination makes it difficult
to train and raise them, as they like to go their own way. Nevertheless
we train our dogs in obedience, agility and show training and they actually
like it and they are good at it. This teamwork, although it's difficult
and asks a lot of fantasy and endurance of us as trainers, is very rewarding.
A SRO does not accept
just anyone as his owner/master. You have to earn his respect by the leadership
you give. This does not mean that you hit or kick the dog! A SRO requests
mental and intellectual leadership of his owner.
It is extremely difficult
to find information about the breed, information about bloodlines, good
breeding material or good breeding combinations. Sometimes I feel like
Sherlock Holmes in research, but it has been rewarding: in the past years
I have gathered a huge database of information, pictures and pedigrees.
We also made SRO friends all over the world in our exchange of information
and we treasure these friendships.
The fact that nothing
comes easy in this breed, nothing is for granted, is what challenges me
most.
Our kennel SARISIN´S (which means "blond sin") was registered in 1991 under the Dutch Kennel Club (Raad van Beheer) and FCI, under license number 29765. Our dogs fulfill the requirements of our breed club concerning temperament, health and exterior.
